Sewing: Ukrainian Ethnic Backpack and Felt Brooches

I never learnt sewing, so when I want to sew smth I usually look for a tutorial and for ideas in Internet. I found a tutorial for a toddler backpack and thought it was a good size for me, though I'm not a toddler :)

I needed an all-purpose bag that would go with any clothes, that's why it's white (unbleached white). And I wanted to make it look Ukrainian - so that's it.

(1) Size 14.5 x 12.5 x 4.5 in. Adjustable straps 1 1\8 in wide.
(2) Main fabric is unbleached cotton canvas with fusible interfacing. Lining is cotton.

(3) Five pockets: 2 outer (one big on the front with Velcro closure, one small on the side) and 3 inner (one big on the front side and 2 smaller on the back - all with Velcro closures).

(4) Decoration: polyester ribbon, cotton lace and felt brooches.

Poppy, chamomile and cornflower are traditional Ukrainian flowers. I planned to make 3 brooches and to wear them as a bunch, but they are too big and it'd look abundant. So now I can change them in accordance with my clothes: red, white or blue :)

I sewed the backpack on Saturday and on Sunday I went to the presidential elections with it :) May Ukraine have peace!

I really like it and I'm so proud I could make it! Of course, there're some mistakes but they're not critical at all. I'm very thankful to Amber for her tutorial and inspiration!
